Coolest Handgun

I bet that most of you have seen Matrix series, and you all were amazed by the cool special effects in the movie. The philosophy and the story are also interesting, but what I would like to touch in this article are the firearms used in this movie. I will slowly “run” through the movie, and shortly present most of the guns used in this movie.

Trinity, in the beginning, is sitting at a desk in front of a laptop, and some cops bust in. These cops have Glock 17 automatic pistols which user 9mm Parabellum cartridge. The choice is perfect, because these guns are quite generic. They are also very used by police, and you should know that Glock holds 50% of US Police market, while other producers get the rest of the market. Beretta, SIG, S&W are also used in the police. but Glock is the king in this niche. All Glocks look the same and the only difference can be about the lengths of the slides, and the grip frames . Internally, there can be different calibers. Glock 17 was the first model of Glock available for US buyers, and this makes out of it the most common model to be found.

Desert Eagle is one of the most played firearms in Hollywood. This gun looks good on the screen in the mind of an ignorant Director. IT is a large pistol, and it is designed to fire the most powerful cartridges available. In one scene of the movie, the cartridge can be seen and it is quite new: .50AE. This model of guns have a lot of good points, and weight is probably the first. They are very heavy and they absorb very much recoil energy. This makes firing a .44 magnum more enjoyable, and the design uses a fixed barrel, which gives the pistol an enhanced accuracy. Its reliability is questionable, and since accuracy and power are both good, the problem of reliability is a big matter in guns. They are rarely used on the firing rangers and they are never used by fighting forces ( police, military or special ops). This pistol is pretty nice to play with, but actually is impractical in any real word circumstances. In this movie, there could have been more interesting choices for an agent’s sidearm. It would have nice to see an H&K MK-23 SOCOM pistol.

The agent firing the Desert Eagle at Trinity performs a spectacular jump through a window and inside the window she draws a pair of Beretta Cheetahs. The models 84 and 85 are quite similar, but the 84 has a double stacked magazine. 85 has a single one. These are pretty cool small guns, and they are much smaller than the Beretta 92, which are similar to them. This gives you the impression, watching the movie, that you see Beretta 92, which we should admit, are nice sexy pistols. If you are somehow interested in Cheetah for real life, they are quite good, and they are the accurate and reliable sister model of the big 92 series. The only disadvantage would be that they are not very powerful. This pistol is chambered for the .380 cartridge, called 9mm Kurtz (it means short). This means less case volume for the gun powder, and this leads to less power. You can load these Berettas with Pro-Load ammunition which is cool like a blow back pistol design.

Neo’s favorite gun is Beretta 92FS. A solid choice, with perfect accuracy and reliability. It has also a cool stash of full power of 9mm ammunition. This is the perfect pistol to empty the clips at agents. Neo uses a pair of 92FS in the llobby battle, one in the elevator shaft, and then again a pair on the roof. A 92FS is the greatest choice you can make if you have to face and armed opponent.
Apoch hands Neo his backup gun, a SIG SAUER P228, which is a pretty nice 9mm capacity pistol. This is one of the best handguns you can have in your hands. The pistol in the movie might be also the SIG P226, but 226 is a little bit longer in barrel/slide length. A good glimpse can be seen when he is inside the wall and he fires at the SWAT guy who discovers him.

Neo and Trinity use Micro Uzis when they do the lobby scene. Trinity walks into the lobby and hoses the guard and calls for help with a Micro. This gun has an extreme high rate of fire which makes it hard to control with one hand. It must be used as a regular handgun, or it must be attached to a folding stock for more support of the automatic fire. A full auto can be fired, but you need a lot of strength to control it one handed, and it usually needs both hands for this kind of actions. Neo uses something like this at the end of the lobby scene, before he kicks the guard to death, with a booth to the head.

These are just few of the large variety of guns used in Matrix series. Actually these are guns only seen in the first part, in “The Matrix“, and I didn’t say anything about the firearms in the second and the third parts, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. In those parts, we can see Glocks, but 18, not like the 17 in the first part, Walther 99, James Bond’s gun, a HK G36K ( a standard model Uzi SMG ), a Thompson Submachinegun aka “Tommy Gun”, a couple variants of the MP5, and a Colt SMG. The variety is very wide, and the guns are pretty interesting, they do a good job in the movie, and you can get inspired from the movie if you really need a gun. Remember that you should responsibly use it, and not harm anyone unless you
